During a visit to Silicon Valley, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung emphasized the nation’s prowess in technology, manufacturing, and innovation, advocating for enhanced cooperation with prominent US venture capital firms to foster the next wave of global tech enterprises. President Lee underscored South Korea’s appeal as an investment hub, citing its advanced digital infrastructure, highly skilled workforce, and rapid execution capabilities. He assured potential investors of government support through initiatives such as visa reforms to attract foreign experts, bolstered collaboration between businesses and research institutions, and increased financial backing for startups.
In a significant move to fortify these ties, South Korea’s National Pension Service inked a memorandum of understanding with six major US venture capital firms. This agreement aims to expand investment cooperation and reinforce connections with South Korea’s burgeoning startup ecosystem, paving the way for more collaborative ventures between the two nations.
President Lee’s visit also included meetings with prominent overseas Koreans and technology leaders. Among those he engaged with were executives from major corporations such as Samsung, SK Group, Hyundai, Nvidia, OpenAI, Broadcom, and Anthropic. These discussions are part of a broader strategy to harness international expertise and strengthen South Korea’s position in the global tech landscape.
Following his engagements in the United States, President Lee continued his international tour with a trip to Brazil. This multi-nation journey is part of an overarching effort to reinforce economic and strategic partnerships, showcasing South Korea’s proactive approach in building robust international alliances.
