Tô Lâm Visits Kremlin, Strengthening Vietnam-Russia Relationship

Vietnamese General Secretary and President Tô Lâm, accompanied by his spouse Ngô Phương Ly, was officially welcomed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow. This ceremonial reception, part of Tô Lâm’s state visit to Russia, unfolded in the historic St George’s Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace. The event featured an exchange of greetings between the two leaders, followed by the playing of the national anthems of both Vietnam and Russia, and concluded with the introduction of their respective official delegations.

After the ceremony, the two leaders engaged in talks and witnessed the signing of various bilateral cooperation documents, later addressing the press. Vietnam and Russia boast a longstanding friendship spanning over 75 years, characterized by a high degree of political trust. Regular high-level exchanges and cooperation through multilateral organizations and international forums further solidify their relationship.

Bilateral ties have increasingly expanded to encompass people-to-people exchanges, as well as collaborations in culture, science, and technology. Notably, scientific and technological cooperation is emerging as a significant aspect of their comprehensive strategic partnership. The Vietnamese community in Russia also plays a vital role in strengthening these bilateral ties.

Tô Lâm’s visit underscores Vietnam’s commitment to its traditional friendship and strategic partnership with Russia, aligning with its foreign policy priorities of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralization. The visit aims to not only reaffirm these ties but also explore new avenues of cooperation in areas such as energy, science and technology, human-resource development, and infrastructure.

As both nations deliberate on long-term strategic priorities, the discussions during this visit are expected to pave the way for enhanced bilateral relations aligned with the developmental goals of Vietnam and Russia.
