South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has pledged full support for the recovery of three soldiers injured by land mine explosions near the Demilitarized Zone. Visiting the Armed Forces Capital Hospital in Seongnam, Lee met with the soldiers and their families, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive medical care, rehabilitation, and assistance to ensure their continued military service.
The soldiers sustained injuries on September 21 during a route-clearance operation south of the Military Demarcation Line in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. The South Korean military attributes the explosions to North Korean mines, allegedly placed as part of border fortification efforts. North Korea, however, has denied these claims, leading South Korea to call for a thorough investigation and appropriate responses to the incident.
During his hospital visit, President Lee instructed officials to conduct a meticulous investigation into the explosions and to assess suitable support and compensation for the injured service members. His visit underscores the South Korean government’s commitment to addressing the needs of its military personnel affected by such incidents.
