South Korea Achieves Best FIFA Women’s Ranking in Over Three Years

South Korea has achieved its highest position in the FIFA women’s world rankings in over three years, climbing to 17th place. This advancement comes after the national team’s commendable performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where they secured a bronze medal.

The South Korean team moved up two spots from its previous ranking, reaching 17th for the first time since June 2023. Within Asia, South Korea is now the fourth-ranked team, trailing Japan, which holds the fifth position globally, North Korea at 12th, and Australia at 15th. Meanwhile, China has slipped to 18th place.

South Korea’s rise in the rankings was bolstered by their success at the Asian Games. After falling to hosts Japan with a 2-0 loss in the semifinals, the team triumphed over China with a 1-0 victory in the third-place match. This win not only secured the bronze medal for South Korea but also marked their first Asian Games bronze in eight years and their first victory over China in 11 years.

Globally, Spain continues to lead the FIFA women’s rankings, followed by the United States, Germany, England, and Japan. The final women’s world rankings for the year are expected to be published by FIFA on December 7.
