US May Suspend Kyiv Embassy Operations if Security Worsens, Says Rubio

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that the United States might consider suspending operations at its embassy in Kyiv if security conditions worsen. The safety of U.S. diplomatic personnel in the Ukrainian capital is under continuous review, and Washington is prepared to alter its diplomatic stance should the risks become unacceptable, Rubio stated.

The potential suspension of embassy operations comes amid ongoing security threats in Kyiv, which has been a focal point of conflict during the Russia-Ukraine war. Russia has issued multiple warnings to foreign diplomatic missions about the dangers present in the city. Despite these concerns, Rubio confirmed that the U.S. Embassy remains operational for the time being.

Rubio emphasized that the situation is being closely monitored and could be reassessed if the threat level to diplomatic staff increases. The safety of personnel is a top priority, and any decision to suspend embassy operations will be based on a thorough analysis of the risks involved.
