During a visit to Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his desire to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon, as he welcomed External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the Kremlin. Putin conveyed his greetings to Modi through Jaishankar and expressed optimism about their next meeting possibly occurring during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Additionally, Putin is anticipated to travel to New Delhi for the BRICS leaders’ summit scheduled for September.
Putin emphasized the strengthening trade relations between Russia and India, noting an increase in fertilizer exports to India with the potential for further expansion. This development underscores the growing economic ties between the two nations, which have been a focal point of recent diplomatic engagements.
Earlier in the visit, Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, focusing on enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Manturov mentioned the possibility of Russia localizing nuclear fuel production in India, indicating deepening collaboration in the energy sector.
Jaishankar’s itinerary in Moscow also includes a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. This meeting aims to address bilateral relations and examine regional and global issues, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the diplomatic dialogue between the two countries.
