Italy Blasts Russia Following Drone Attack That Hurts Romanians

Italy has issued a strong condemnation of Russia after a drone reportedly hit a residential building in Romania, close to the Ukrainian border, injuring two civilians and escalating regional security concerns. The incident took place in the city of Galați, raising the alarm about the potential for the conflict to spread beyond Ukraine’s borders.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni labeled the drone strike as an extremely serious act, emphasizing that it occurred on Romanian soil, a nation that is part of both the European Union and NATO. She highlighted the risks such incidents pose to European security and expressed solidarity with the Romanian government and those affected by the attack.

In response to the incident, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani urged Russia to engage sincerely in peace efforts and reaffirmed Italy’s support for Romania, stressing the importance of pursuing a just and lasting resolution to the conflict. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto also condemned the strike, describing it as a dangerous and irresponsible escalation, noting that the security of one NATO and EU member concerns all allies.

The strike has amplified worries among European leaders about the conflict’s potential to spill over into neighboring countries. As tensions persist, NATO members continue to underscore their commitment to collective defense and maintaining regional stability. The attack serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat to civilians and the broader implications for European security.
