Türkiye has expressed its readiness to facilitate another round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, as announced by Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov. The offer was reaffirmed during discussions in Kazan, where Turkish authorities confirmed their willingness to host negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This development follows a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Despite Türkiye’s efforts, Ushakov highlighted that recent Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian soil have complicated the prospects of a direct meeting between President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Since the conflict’s onset, Türkiye has maintained a balanced diplomatic stance, engaging with both Moscow and Kyiv. Earlier efforts included hosting negotiations in Istanbul, which, although not resulting in a final agreement, marked a significant diplomatic attempt to bridge differences between the two nations.
Turkish officials remain committed to promoting de-escalation and pursuing a peaceful resolution through ongoing diplomatic engagement. Recent high-level discussions have focused on finding avenues to end the conflict and lower regional tensions. Türkiye’s role as a mediator continues to be pivotal as it advocates for renewed dialogue between the conflicting parties.
In addition to Türkiye’s efforts, Ushakov mentioned that Russia is awaiting feedback from the United States following discussions at the G7 summit. He confirmed that senior American officials are expected to visit Russia soon, indicating ongoing international involvement in efforts to address the conflict. As the war persists, it remains a significant factor influencing global politics and security, with Türkiye playing a key role in advocating for diplomatic solutions.
